The Dammed River traces a century-long chain of deception surrounding the damming of Finland’s Kemijoki River—from early 20th-century deals to present-day hydropower plans. Through artist-journalist Olli Tiuraniemi, who has spent his life processing the river’s trauma, and Sirpa Iivari, an activist whose river advocacy led her to become a city council chair, the film connects past injustices with ongoing struggles. Blending archival discoveries with lived testimony, it reveals how power and profit have repeatedly overridden riverside communities.
