Jouko Aaltonen (born 1956) has directed numerous documentaries with subjects ranging from the Siberian taiga to the diplomatic circles of New Delhi. In 2006 he released the feature length documentary Revolution that garnered record-breaking audiences and the Finnish Jussi award for best documentary. He is also a popular lecturer and an author of study books on cinema. He graduated from the Film Department, University of Industrial Arts, Helsinki in 1984. In 2007 he achieved his Doctor of Arts degree, successfully defending his doctoral thesis on Finnish documentaries. Born in Philadelphia in 1975, Finnish-Irish-American Donagh Coleman holds degrees in Philosophy and Psychology, as well as Music and Media Technologies. Donagh has studied Tibetan Buddhism, and has spent long periods in India and China, where many of his documentary subjects come from. Previous films include Stone Pastures (2008) – an Irish-Finnish-English co-production, with wide festival exposure, and winner of the Grand Prix prize at the 2009 Cervino Cinemountain Festival in Italy. His film Une Année Sur Le Toit Du Monde was commissioned for ARTE’s primetime Découverte-slot. Besides films, Donagh directs radio documentaries for the Finnish and Irish national broadcasters. His Radio Feature “Gesar!” on Tibet’s epic bards was Finland’s entry for the 2012 Prix Italia competition. Donagh also works as a TV and radio journalist and presenter for YLE News.

Davidow is an American composer/film director who has lived and worked in Europe since the 1970s. He was educated in New York College of Music, Moscow Conservatory and Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He has resided permanently in Finland since 1978. His fields of activity include: film director, composer, compositon for film, theater, and multimedia works. His documentary films deal with social issues, such as poverty, discrimination, HIV and Aids, ranging geographically from his home city of New York to South America and Africa. Davidow has specialized in working with dance, and has worked with the the leading choreographers, including original visual works and composition for The Finnish National Opera. His more recent emphasis is on visual/acoustic/digital film productions. Joe Davidow’s films and compositions have been represented at numerous international festivals, and have won many national and international Film and Compositon awards, including the pretigious PRIX ITALIA.

MARKKU LEHMUSKALLIO (b. 1938, Rauma, Finland)
is one of the leading documentary filmmakers in Finland and also one of its best-known internationally. The majority of Lehmuskallio´s films portray traditional life in the Arctic hemisphere. The indigenous peoples of Siberia, Northern Canada and Scandinavia, and their cultures, play leading roles in his works.

Born in Amdo, Qinghai Province in Tibet in 1977, Lharigtso graduated from Beijing's China Women's University with a BA in Media Studies. She has worked in the art department and Tibetan documentary productions in Xizang TV, Lhasa, as well as in Beijing TV. From 2003, Lharigtso worked with the NGO Tibet Heritage Fund, where she organised projects, photographed, and produced videos, including UN-commissioned programmes. Lharigtso has held art photography exhibitions in China, India, Germany and Finland. Since 2008 Lharigtso has worked with Donagh Coleman, producing programs for the Finnish and Irish broadcasters about Beijing locals and young Beijing Tibetans, among other subjects. Joint projects also include radio feature documentaries as well as travelling photography and film shows on her culture.

We are a Finnish - Vietnamese married couple. We met in Moscow, where we both were studying in the Film Institute. We got married in 1994 and moved to Finland. For several reasons that we self couldn’t affect, we ended up living separately both in our respective homelands for several years. During this time Juho Lilja spend long periods in Vietnam. Finally, year 2003, we were able to live again permanently together in Helsinki. Vietnam is an important country for us and we try to visit there as often as possible. We have good and active relationships with people working in the movie and TV business. Many of them are our collaborators. Nga Vu-Lilja has worked several years in the Vietnam TV and continued her work in YLE in Finland. She has planned and directed several short TV documentaries and possesses digital editing skills too. Juho Lilja has directed one feature documentary and a few short fiction films. He has participated in several scriptwriting projects and worked as a cinematographer as well. He also has worked as an information officer of a NGO.

Pekka Niskanen is a media artist, video and filmmaker who has shown his works world wide. His most important one man show was in White Box gallery in April 2004 in New York where he showed his video installation ”Ryokan Mother Tongue” Other major works include street billboard works ”You Want to Know” (1996), ”Another Person” (1997) and a film ”A Girl Bathing in a Kitchen Sink” (2000) that belong to the
collection Helsinki City Art Museum. Installation ”Stefan Lindfors” (1993), site specific work ”I Like Him and Her” (1995) and a videoinstallation ”As
a Matter of Fat” (1998) and are part of the collection of Contemporary Art Museum in Helsinki. Niskanen has visualized as well experimental theatre in Finland. He realized the set design and costumes for Verdi’s Rigoletto in Gothenburg’s Opera in Sweden 2005. Niskanen has curated art shows for museums and art institutions in Finland and functioned as a media art lecturer in Art and Design University (Helsinki), Art Academy (Helsinki) and Tampere Polytechnic.

Martti Puukko studied at the Jagellonian University in Cracow 1980-1982 and at the University of Wroclaw in 1990-1991. During 1991 – 1997 he lived in Prague and worked for the biggest Swedish daily newspaper "Aftonbladet".

Seppo Rustanius has during 25 years written and directed several documentary films of Finnish Civil War, history of Russian Karelian, singer, theatre and history of Finnish civilization. Has directed over 20 films: documentaries, nature films, art films, dance- and music videos, children's films. His films have been sold to over 60 countries and visited to over 100 festivals. After having worked for the Finnish and Swedish national broadcasting companies, Karin Tötterman spent five years in Shanghai working as a journalist and documentary director and producer. She is well aqcuainted with Chinese culture, politics and the city of Shanghai in particular. Karin speaks Mandarin and is the author of an award-winning book about taxi drivers and politics in Shanghai.

We are a Finnish - Vietnamese married couple. We met in Moscow, where we both were studying in the Film Institute. We got married in 1994 and moved to Finland. For several reasons that we self couldn’t affect, we ended up living separately both in our respective homelands for several years. During this time Juho Lilja spend long periods in Vietnam. Finally, year 2003, we were able to live again permanently together in Helsinki. Vietnam is an important country for us and we try to visit there as often as possible. We have good and active relationships with people working in the movie and TV business. Many of them are our collaborators. Nga Vu-Lilja has worked several years in the Vietnam TV and continued her work in YLE in Finland. She has planned and directed several short TV documentaries and possesses digital editing skills too. Juho Lilja has directed one feature documentary and a few short fiction films. He has participated in several scriptwriting projects and worked as a cinematographer as well.
