Illume Ltd

Illume Ltd is a production company specialised in creative documentary filmmaking. Illume has produced more than 75 documentary and fiction features as well as factual TV series and experimental short films since the company was founded in 1987. It is the largest documentary film production companies in Finland, and unique in its investment in new documentaries. Illume has a wealth of experience of productions in Finland, Soviet Union and Russia, the Baltic region, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Africa and India.

Illume has been able to increase its production budgets considerably in the last ten years through international co-operation and increased international distribution. The company now employs dozens of freelancers internationally every year, consequently co-productions and distribution have been extended to Scandinavia, the Baltic region and more recently the rest of Europe.

Illume Ltd's editorial team selects projects that are historically and  culturally important particularly to the Finnish audience and the company has become an expert in producing films that speak of our national identity. Illume Ltd's second main line of work is in films where the focus is on themes that appeal to wider audiences and subjects that have universal relevance. The company has had nine feature lenght films in cinema release and Illume's films have been shown at film festivals worldwide.

Illume Ltd aims to produce documentary films that are entertaining and inspire debate about culture, politics, religion and humanity as a whole. The company is interested in topics dealing with national history, and also issues that reach out to greater audiences and subjects that translate to any nationalities.
