Return to Taiga

A lot can happen in three years. When Illume Ltd’s filming group filmed the Taiga Nomads –trilogy, the Soviet Union still existed. In 1994 the same group returned to show the completed films, meet friends and see how the life in the district had changed. How was Sasha, Vaska, Sveta, Uljana and old Nikolai?

Return to Taiga is a film about the terms of life and death. How can a small indigenous people survive and maintain their way of life in a great turning point? The film is both informative and intimate. It also was the last film of anthropologist Heimo Lappalainen.
