Company

Illume Ltd is a Finnish production company that specialices in creative documentary filmmaking. The company was established in 1987 by filmmakers Pertti Veijalainen, Jouko Aaltonen and Heimo Lappalainen. Since then more than 140 productions have been completed, including fifteen international co-productions. The company invests in developing entertaining, emotionally engaging films that spark debate about the society and politics in the world today.

Illume produces films for cinema and TV distribution and TV-series. Illume's films feature regularly in domestic festivals and they have won a number of prestigious awards worldwide. The company has received European Union MEDIA development slate funding four times, in 2003, 2010 2012 and 2015.

Jouko Aaltonen

Jouko Aaltonen

Managing Director, Producer, Director

Directed numerous documentaries with subjects ranging from the Siberian taiga to the diplomatic circles of New Delhi. In 2006 he released the feature length documentary Revolution that garnered record-breaking audiences and the Finnish Jussi award for best documentary. He is also a popular lecturer and an author of study books on cinema. He graduated from the Film Department, University of Industrial Arts, Helsinki in 1984 achieved his Doctor of Arts degree in 2006.

Oona Saari

Producer

Oona studied Film and TV in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and graduated 2018. She started working in Illume 2017. She has also worked as a project and content producer and owns a extensive expertise from the field of multimedia. 2022 she was chosen to EURODOC and IDFAcademy.
